  2.  Do I need special equipment or clothing for this workshop?
All the necessary gear, including helmets are provided for you. For safety, however, you must bring and wear appropriate footwear. See our clothing list for details. In general, comfortable T-shirts and tights work the best. Each participant receives a pair of Saddle Sojourn tights, included in your workshop fee. Be sure that you indicate your size in our pre-ride questionnaire.

  5.  Is riding a horse safe?
Rides are guided and supervised by experienced riders and trainers. Like any other sport, horseback riding has its own risks. Trail conditions and terrain varies. Natural hazards and obstacles are present. Horses, no matter how well trained, may behave unpredictably under certain circumstances. We apply prudent precautions to control the risk. We provide helmets to each rider and insist on proper footwear. There is a high student to facilitator ratio. We endeavor to make all Saddle Sojourn workshops as safe and as fun as possible.

  6.  What are the accommodations like?
The Warner Springs Ranch resort offers spacious casitas located on beautifully landscaped grounds. Single and double occupancy is available. The ranch is adjacent to the 24,000 acre Cleveland National Forest. There are three oversized pools, including a natural hot mineral water pool - great for an after trail ride soak. A spa is located on site. You might consider extending your stay and enjoy tennis, golf, hiking or relaxing.

  7.  What kind of horses do you use?
Our horses are well trained in endurance and trail riding, used to traveling over a variety of terrain, and have tremendous stamina and bond with humans. They are well trained and accustomed to riders of differing abilities. We use Arabians, Paints, and other breeds, suitable in athletic and mental ability.

  8.  Are there any pre-workshop assignments?
We ask each participant to complete the NEO Five factor Inventory (also known as the Big 5), a highly recognized assessment instrument. We also ask our participants to complete a provocative questionnaire for use in our off-trail exercises. Our suggested reading list is made available before the workshop as well.

  9.  What programs do you have for experienced riders?
We currently offer two programs for experienced riders. The first is for endurance riders who would like to combine technical coaching, race strategies and training and riding tips with activities designed to enhance personal effectiveness and leadership skills. The second is for riders that are just returning or wishing to return to the sport of riding and would like a more challenging riding experience.
